Why is it important to properly cite?
“Students are expected to provide proper citations for the statements and ideas of others. When the ideas are paraphrased, they need only to be properly footnoted. When the ideas are submitted word for word, they must be both set in quotes and footnoted. When students collaborate on papers or out-of-class examinations, the names of all collaborators must be cited on all papers submitted. It is expected that research and writing assigned to individual students will be done by those students.” (From The Source Student Handbook 2002/2003, p. 21 - for more specifics on Ghostwriting, Word for Word Plagiarism, Patchwork Plagiarism, and Unacknowledged Paraphrases, consult The Source)
